Mrs Buzzard and Mrs Wootton- Year 5

Miss Harrison and Mrs Wright- Year 6

PE Days

PE is on a Thursday afternoon with our coach from Sports Plus. All children will need to have a P.E kit in school throughout the week as we are offering a range of lunchtime clubs.

In English, we begin the spring term with exciting war based narrative units focused on the books 'Good night Mr Tom’ in Year 5 and in Year 6 ‘The Silver Sword’. Following February half term Year 5 will base their English work on the book ‘The boy in the striped pyjamas’ and Year 6 will commence revision work using the book ‘Skellig’.

The children, as always, will be working on improving their ability to use exciting Vocabulary, Conjunctions, Openers and Punctuation (VCOP) in their writing across the whole year, and we look forward to some more opportunities for experiential writing. Spelling will focus upon the National curriculum words for Year 5 and 6- National Curriculum Spellings- alongside the spellings that are sent home weekly in RWI spellings.

In Mathematics, Year 5 will complete the following units: Number – Multiplication and Division, Number – Fractions and Number – Decimals & Percentages. In Year 6: Number- Decimals, Number- Percentages, Number- Algebra, Measurement Converting units, Measurement Perimeter, Area and Volume and Number- Ratio.

As always, children will continue to be mastering the four calculation skills by solving problems and proving their answers. Please continue to help your child with times tables and number bonds as these skills are always beneficial with all the units we will learn throughout the year.

Throughout the term, topic work will be based on ‘The Second World War’. This will include studying the history of WW2, significant figures and how Britain has changed geographically.

Finally, in Science this term, children will be developing their scientific enquiry skills by studying 'Electricity.'
